Charles Hugh Smith discusses civilization's crumbling status quo and the hydrocarbon industrial age or current world system which some view as superabundant due to technology while others question whether we've used up the easy energy and are facing resource constraints.
You mentioned plastic bags, it seems funny in a way that we get rid of plastic bags but most of the products are in plastic containers. We need to go back to nature for answers and IMHO we are at the brink of a reset that is based on depopulation which only the elites seem to want but once you reach a certain point no one wants to go back to nature. Catch-22, I wish I had answers
1. The Cynic in me feels like the reason why djt is promoting local is because the occultocracy has tried top-down global control, and it's not working/didn't work. So they need to "decentralize" and let us rebuild the systems they broke so they can observe and then begin to sink their hooks into it.
2. I am beyond happy to hear your thriving. You're living a life that's proof to me that I don't need a 6 figure IT job to be happy. I continue to hope and pray for good things for you.
It’s always a let-down for me when an evolutionary idea is presented right off the bat, but I waited it out and it turned out to be a very good conversation. There is so much I could write, but many of the things said by both Hrvoje and Charles are things I think about and talk about.
I dislike plastic, but it is impossible to completely avoid it. I buy in bulk and store food in various sizes of canning jars. My shelves are pretty impressive, if I say so myself. I wish I could post a picture. :) I live off grid. I don’t have a refrigerator. In the winter, I have plenty of space to keep things cool right outside the door. I heat with wood so cooking in the winter is easy. It’s harder in the summer, but I did purchase a sun oven so I do cook some things now.
I don’t worry about “wasting” water. It naturally recycles. My water comes into my cabin in buckets. I haul water from the spring, the pond, or sometimes rainwater I catch off the roof. Water goes back out in a bucket that I pour into my greywater rock pile. My water use is minimal, but that’s because of the reality of water use - hauling in and out - not because I think it’s a scarce resource. I am also not paying per gallon from some municipal water source. My water is free, other than labor.
A shift in values…. Yes, so true. The world needs this very much. I value homemade/handmade items and have a lot of them. I like pedal/treadle/hand-powered tools and value the skills and ability to use them. I have looms, treadle sewing machines, pedal/hand-powered grain mill, tincture press, leather-working tools, and so much more. I like to make my own. It may not be “efficient,” it may take me longer than someone who does it all the time and is in that situation of being bound to keep doing it to pay their bills while not enjoying it any more, and it may not be quite as perfect as a “boughten” item, but I like the process and the results.
I will listen to this again. There were so many good points made. I hope I can get my daughter-in-law to listen to it. She seems driven to have a career and make money instead of just being willing to live on less. She’s very sweet, but I think cultural pressure has made her feel like she needs to produce and to earn “her share,” especially if she wants to maintain the level of lifestyle she is used to and that maybe her family expects and values.
Oh, another thing…. I grew up in Bolivia. Plastic bags were very expensive and we rarely used them. They were also very thin and it was easy to poke holes in them. We washed them out and reused them as many times as possible, which I still do. I prefer glass or metal, but when I use plastic, I use it until it can’t be used any more.
In Bolivia (this was 1976-1986), everyone had their own shopping bags. You didn’t go shopping without them. It was just the normal thing and no one thought twice about it. I still have at least one of those shopping bags. I still have a slew of shopping bags that I usually carry in my car, along with some baskets I made. I don’t shop at “normal” grocery stores very often and I don’t buy much there when I do. It is easy enough to grab a basket or bag to take in.

Lots of good stuff here. Thank you, gentlemen.

So simple
but why can't we, will we Not focus on the main problem?
Why are we so inflicted/corrupted with the neurosis of misdirection
