I wonder what Manley would say of warnings from Michael Crichton's books. I think he had insight into what was under the surface, especially after he spent time in the Salk institute as he was working on his MD. He passed away soon after writing about the pretense of the environmental scare claims, but he wrote mostly of abuse in the medical research area.
As a narrative artist I agree with John 100% Artists and Writers need to get their bums into gear more now than ever. As he observed, life is stranger than art, so artists need to keep up and almost become 'reporters on the human condition', and all they have to do is do it accurately as fiction. Great interview, thanks!
I read The Road about 2018 or so. The copy I had was much dogeared, so I thought the book itself was older. say mid 70's?, than it actually was. When I finally read the copyright dates after I was done with the book, my mind was blown. Decades later than I thought. (insert bomb blowing up sound that all boys and few girls can make).....
