Michelle Stiles discusses her excellent book "One Idea To Rule Them All: Reverse Engineering American Propaganda" where she describes how we are being "idea bullied" and that the elite have a near all-encompassing grip on information at all levels of society and governance.
Thanks for the support and encouragement Margaret! Yes, indeed Hrvoje that will be a great interview. And you might be right about Le Bon- as I understand he was rejected by the intellecutal elite of his time and did write popular literature but as per Nye's work https://archive.org/details/originsofcrowdps0000nyer/page/60/mode/2up seemed to be distrustful of democratic politics and the French Revolution?? Regardless, your point is valid that certainly in today's world we can and should read him in the way of a warning. If only every high schooler were made to read the book... well we can hope. In the meantime, cheers and thanks again!!
Looking forward to this interview with one of the most astute contemporary analysts of propaganda, social engineering, and coercion!
Michelle, "One Idea To Rule Them All" is a kickass book, and I actually gave it a special shoutout during my Defender interview on "Canary in a Covid World: How Propaganda & Censorship Changed Our (My) World" last year:
The only thing you've stated that I would question is Gustave Le Bon's motives. I understand you believe he was essentially writing a manual for the ruling classes on how to manipulate the masses, whereas I read his work as a revelation *to* the masses about how the ruling classes manipulate them, thus empowering them to resist the propaganda and mass persuasion techniques. I see his work as being in the mind-opening tradition of Joost Meerloo, Orwell, and Huxley.
And yes, I know the arguments about Huxley actually being an elitist and eugenicist (primarily because of guilt by association with Julian), but I still find it difficult to believe someone who articulated the techniques of propaganda with such crystal clarity in essays like "Words and Behavior" (https://margaretannaalice.substack.com/p/consequential-quotes-aldous-huxleys) was secretly for the rulers he so eloquently exposed and eviscerated in quotes like this:
“Rulers of nations and leaders of parties find morality embarrassing. That is why they take such pains to depersonalize their opponents. All propaganda directed against an opposing group has but one aim: to substitute diabolical abstractions for concrete persons. The propagandist’s purpose is to make one set of people forget that certain other sets of people are human. By robbing them of their personality, he puts them outside the pale of moral obligation. Mere symbols can have no rights—particularly when that of which they are symbolical is, by definition, evil.”
I've been thinking about how everything they deflect truth with is the left hemisphere dominant mind mechanization. An inhuman way of shutting out any human aspect of exploring truth. Such as experience, intuition, self test, autonomous research etc. It reveals an absolute contempt for humanity. I highly recommend you interview Dr. Iain McGillchrist. His research is brilliant and on target. He's here on substack.
Iain McGilchrist is on Substack?! Thank you for the heads-up, Cloud Lion Artist. I just listened to the audiobook of "Ways of Attending" and am listening to "The Master and His Emissary" right now. I referenced both brilliant works in a comment the other day:
I felt the same way, very exciting. I listen to his works pretty often. It's such a helpful way to understand what's happening with the people who are so sold out to their pet causes, and politics. Hope you have a great day 💐
This might be out of left field (ha- no pun intended) but what about the autism/left brain aspect of things?
And the vaccines.
The more vaccines over the years, the more my high school students seem like left-brained, high functioning autists, and with very little imagination.
Also, the tech industry seems to like autistic, left brain thinking- even to the point of favoring those without much imagination in the way of ethics.
So more vaccines = more mercury, aluminum, etc. = more acceptance of a tech based, left-brained society.
an interesting wrinkle on the vaccine / autism wave is to what extent has vaccine injury been conflated with actual autism that existed before the vaccine industrial complex, and so was not initiated by vaccine injury? if that inquiry interests you, consider checking out the detailed look at that distinction at the "aut naught aut" substack: https://autnaughtaut.substack.com
we are living the bhagavad-gita wedded to the great apocalypse! all the best with what is changing. everything changes! with peace, respect, love and equanimous enthusiasm.
The first time I perceived the criminalization of free speech was during Obama's first campaign for president. I remember hearing news reports saying that people who said publicly that Obama was a Muslim would be arrested. I couldn't believe, at the time, that something like that would be allowed to stand, unchallenged, in America.
we are living the bhagavad-gita wedded to the great apocalypse! all the best with what is changing. everything changes! with peace, respect, love and equanimous enthusiasm.
ahhh, sweet food dance. (and 10 minutes ago i read to a friend from Finnegan's Wake!)
it is all espionage to the extent that the spy-masters are game-playing and we mere players, we have our exits and entrances on a 7 staged 5d chess board.
we are living in perhaps, some kind of convergence between the ly-ification and babel-ification of language in a singularity of meaninglessness. (not what chuang-tsu likely meant when he expressed the idea that words, being the carrier of ideas, fell away as being unnecessary after the idea had been caught) that really is the endpoint of post modernism, after all, ultimate nihilism.
it might be that we are unwittingly the humpty dumpties to be humped and dumped, stupefied by the stultification of meaning as meaninglessness.
hmmm. synchronicity? did you watch any of the senate questioning of the pbs and npr ceos for being liars? omg! katherine maher, ceo of npr, had argued in a ted talk that truth was too confusing and difficult to determine so that it is better if we live ly-fully together in a falsified harmony!
[maher on ted]'… perhaps for our most tricky disagreements, seeking the truth and seeking to convince others of the truth might not be the right place to start. In fact, our reverence for the truth might be a distraction that's getting in the way of finding common ground and getting things done.'
so... espionage, delusion of espionage, or the reveal of method that we were too busy to notice or understand while we were trying to deny humpty's broken state. so what if the marxist mahers were telling us that lying is truth and reconciliation, that is so stupid as to be discarded — until they are the ceo's telling us the truth that men and women don't exist so let's cut off their genitals as children to prove our truth. so, when they advocate the lie, they aren't lying! they really meant it and we were thinking that they were just being stupid. lol! more fool us.
and of course, maher was caught pretty much lying or evading the truth the entire time she was being pilloried by the senators.

omg! "I may be dumb, but I'm slow!" love it and, surely smacko9, truly you have listened to 'the vinyl café' the world's smallest record store. 'We May Not Be Big, But We're Small.'
and not too many years ago, i loved making pies! and i was good at that until i discovered that sugar, like cocaine and heroine, is a white powder from refined plant juice — but is absolutely not a drug!
and i've begun 'the labyrinth' in the link and early on the narrator refers to the *images* that created the false reality, psychotoxins. yup. for sure.
in connunction with that are words, which are of course spelled and spelling us in many many ways and perhaps more sharply and deeply than images: they are the means by which we take the wordlessness of an idea, convert it to words and/or image, and then voice/express into life. as a primarily literate society — although the internet may be changing that — words might be the bigger magic wand with that hint of snake to potter-fy us into compliance.
starting many years ago, and refined recently, i've looked at the spell-power of specific words. they are, likely at this time, a far bigger psychotoxin as agent of control in life than the image: the word creates the most powerful lie. very specifically, the language lie of the bully culture that we propagate and perpetuate. the big and the little lies that are cleverly hide from ourselves behind the survival masks we use in order to survive the liars life within enculturated 'bully stockholm syndrome'.
so, if you are interested. i've been studying our day-to-day ubiquitous use of bully language, most commonly in our use of 'have to' and 'should'. these two are the biggest spell words of disempowerment. and how and why removing then from our lexicon is a death by a thousand absent cuts to the ptb looking to control us. if curious, see: 'Spell Breaking Language-Keys to Unlock Language Locks: Unseen, We Live Bully Stockholm Syndrome And Other Oddities of Being Alive in a Miss-Spelled See of Words.' https://gduperreault.substack.com/p/spell-breaking-language-keys-to-unlock
more recently i have refined my understanding of the extreme subtle nature of what i thought of as simply bully language spells. the real damage, i now understand, is that 'have to' and 'should' promote the lie. every time we use them we have in some way lied to ourselves and/or lied to the other. so subtly that we don't see it.
the harm is that our physical manifestation of soul, our body, is the only thing of our expression that lives in the moment and that that living in the moment is truth. it cannot be any other way.
so, whenever we lie we separate ourselves from our truth and turn to the mind to find our way back. and we live the lie that that mind is more important and stronger than the body! too funny, and so obviously a lie that we have entire schools of yoga, meditation, psychology, psychiatry, pharmacology, and any other tom foolery to 'trick' the mind into some kind of artificial compliance to being present in the moment, all the while our body hums along, now and only now, despite our best efforts to deny its present and very powerful state!
i have come to laugh at the weakness of the so-called mindfulness practices when, in reality, what is more effective is corpfulness practices. i could ramble on for a while about that.
if that concept interests you, you may find my deep discovery of that when i questioned why the game masters have gone to great lengths to make giant cultural lies, such and the apollo moon landing. or even the convid. control of mind/attitude and control of money, although the latter is harder to do if the former hasn't been mastered.
the big cultural lies are huge wedges between living the truth of our manifest body, which is the soul's expression in the material world, to paraphrase william blake. without the grounded touchstone of our body's truth, we fall victim to authority-structures, the evil of morality — which i now understand as being 100% the way humans most easily rationalise away compassion — and gaslighting: our truth detector has been turned off and we can no longer trust ourselves. so... if you are interested: "The Apollo Moon Landing Didn't Happen. It is a Big Lie — So What? this is a very fine interview with interesting ideas. and it is my first time with you and mucho gusto. well done.
(where are you in mexico? i'm here as well and perhaps we can arrange to meet.)
i've been writing about this culture of ours being a bully culture for some time. the lie is perhaps the epitome of that bullying. specifically on how particular parts of our daily ubiquitous language perpetuate and propagate the lie of our smallness. i've in recent efforts been deep diving into how the lie is used not just to confuse the mind. while that is important, i now realise that the lie is more importantly being used, and has been for thousands of years, to separate us from body and then soul. the split between the soul and body is the single most important way that we easily fall prey/ victim to authority and from that blind obedience. the lie is the key.
i really appreciated stiles reference to each of us doing our part, small as it is, to the best of our ability and then let go and let god. (my paraphrase.) yes indeed.(and i loved the lord of the rings books and read re-read them many many times when I was young.)
my essays look at the lie problem in various ways. recently i asked why did the society conspire for the big lie of the moon landing? was it just money? when we believe a big cultural lie, we are more easily manipulated. in some schools, it is the acceptance of the lie that allows the anti-god energies to enter and create havoc.
and i think that the more powerful lie that is repeated thousands of times a day: the bully language of 'have to' (masculine bully energy of force and power) and 'should' (feminine bully language of social propriety and guilt).
if curios:

HI, Thanks for responding.
Let The Games Begin!

So Condoning Espionage is the 'current' name of the game;
let's call IT change for whomever the winner ...
This could be a fun game; for someone or some gang?
for whoever the winner not call it treason
so we all hang on the whim of 'change'?

Now I'm reminded of the Law Firm of Humpty Pump & Dumpty
-
Humpty Dumpty 'when I use a word':
“When I use a word,’ Humpty Dumpty said in rather a scornful tone,
‘it means just what I choose it to mean — neither more nor less.’
--
’The question is,’ said Alice,
‘whether you can make words mean so many different things.’
-
’The question is,’ said Humpty Dumpty, ‘which is to be master — that’s all.”

Does Humanity seek to serve a whimsical Master of chaos & confusion?
or Does Humanity seek order / understanding / accountability to deal with life change death & taxes;
or manipulation espionage propaganda in lieu of honest clear accurate communication?
What is the meaning of words without accountability?
Is Lying Loving?

Is selling 'change' in support of espionage, propaganda? ;-)

hola, g&e:
this is a very fine interview with interesting ideas. and it is my first time with you and mucho gusto. well done.
